14 September 2021 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

Virtual Event Virtual Event

First in the series of 8 webinars on Culture, Values and Attitudes, this session will focus on the various aspects of Social Rituals:

  • How we understand ‘good manners’ is culturally informed and may differ significantly across ethnic backgrounds, languages, generations and apply differently in various contexts
  • How do we express gratitude?
  • How do we apologise?
  • Ways of greeting and addressing people
  • Dress codes
  • Body language
  • Language, expressions, ‘manners’, tone and pitch
  • Understanding of time and punctuality
  • Visiting people in their homes

What does it mean to be polite?
How do we show respect?
What is acceptable ‘at home’, ‘with friends’, ‘within a trusted circle’ and what/how changes ‘outside’? What is ‘outside’?
Are there any special rules to show respect to some people in particular? i.e. elders, priests, authority, doctors, teachers, else??
