Celebrations – Part 4 of Culture, Values and Attitudes webinar series

During the webinar we will have a closer look into what and when people celebrate.

  • What dates are important to us during our life?  Which do we celebrate every year?
  • What celebrations we share as a family?  Who is involved and how?
  • What sources inform the celebrations (i.e. a calendar; a religious calendar; a family record of events; tradition; community events; sport events)?
  • Do any celebrations involve different generations?  Have they been passed in families?
  • Have any of traditional celebrations evolved?  Over the years?  Because of changed family dynamics?  Because of migrating to Australia?  Because of moving interstate?
  • What celebrations are shared within a wider community (i.e. of the same cultural background; speaking the same language; sharing the same religion; sharing the same profession or hobby)?
  • What does remain different and family-specific?  What do you remember being different now and when you were a child?
  • Why are celebrations important?  How do they influence our quality of life; identity; self-validation?
  • Have the role/meaning/impact of celebrations changed through our life?  How?  Why?
  • Have they changed recently because of COVID-19 pandemic?

We are inviting you for a journey to answer these and similar questions as most relevant to you.
We hope that this will inspire you to ask others (your work colleagues – both paid staff and volunteers; clients; residents; patients) for their reflections and encourage story sharing and reminiscence among you.

With the incoming end of 2021 and the Festive Season upon us, we may find new ways to know each other better.  We may equip ourselves with new tools and strategies to respond appropriately to what is particularly dear and significant to us in diverse settings we live and work.  We might improve our knowledge and skills to enhance quality of life, bring joy, peace and love and new reasons to smile.
