Today the Australian Government released the report for the analysis of dementia programmes which was announced earlier this year.

The analysis was undertaken in response to a recommendation from the 2014 Ministerial Dementia Forum. Forum participants suggested there was scope to improve the effectiveness, coordination and national alignment of the current suite of Australian Government dementia support programmes.

The analysis considered aged care dementia support programmes. These programmes complement the wide variety of services delivered to people with dementia through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, Home Care Packages, residential care and respite care.

KPMG undertook the analysis which was informed by extensive consultation in April and May this year. In total, 291 people attended face-to-face consultations including consumers, carers, service providers, peak industry associations, and organisations representing people from diverse backgrounds. In addition, 57 written submissions were received.

The Government will be discussing the report at the Ministerial Dementia Forum on Friday 6 November, 2015 in Melbourne. If you have any enquiries please email dementia@dss.gov.au.
