DoHA’s response to recent Gastro outbreak
Dr Susan Hunt, Senior Nurse Advisor, Office of Aged Care Quality and Compliance, has released letters addressed to residential aged care and community aged care service providers, regarding the larger than usual numbers of cases of severe gastroenteritis reported recently. It is thought this is due to the spread of a new strain of norovirus that has caused a winter epidemic in Europe and the United Kingdom, and is a reminder that outbreaks of gastroenteritis can occur all year round.
